Welcome to Colombia!

On behalf of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and our hosts, AAPG’s Latin America and Caribbean Region and the Colombian Association of Petroleum Geologists and Geophysicists (ACGGP), we welcome you Cartagena and to the AAPG 2022 International Conference and Exhibition (ICE): Geosciences and Innovation to Fuel the Energy Future.

While the Latin America and Caribbean Region’s oil and gas industry has increased exploration and production activity significantly recent years, many governments and countries are looking to the energy transition and its implications for their economies and societies.

The transition is underway and is being driven by factors such as economic growth, evolving consumer habits, and emerging technologies. The Region, and our society overall, faces a dual challenge: how to make a transition to a low-carbon energy future, while also delivering the benefits of energy to everyone on the planet.

We’ve put together a very attractive program that balances traditional E&P activities with energy transition challenges and opportunities and highlights advances in research, science, and technology being implemented throughout the region and the world.

The event includes executive level panels with Regulatory Agency, NOC, IOC, and startup company leaders, as well as country sessions highlighting the energy industry in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana/Suriname, Mexico, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago. Our multidisciplinary technical program includes sessions covering petroleum systems, stratigraphy and sedimentology; structural geology, tectonics and geomechanics; offshore exploration and production; geophysics; unconventional resources; energy, society and environment; critical minerals for energy diversification; and geodata science and artificial intelligence.

Because we are committed to shaping the next generation of diverse energy professionals, ICE 2022 also includes career development networking and activities for students and young professionals and a special session highlighting the role of female leaders in industry.

Our conference committee invites you to enjoy this historic global event in one of Latin America’s most beautiful and historic cities. A World Heritage site founded in 1533, Cartagena is known for its picturesque colonial architecture, charming old city, and a prime location on the Caribbean Coast.

In addition to enjoying our world-class conference program, take time to savor the Colombian coffee, delicious pastries and colorful sunsets on Cartagena’s open balconies overlooking cobblestone streets. The memories will last long beyond your stay.
